The PYC are delighted to announce the return of Friday Afternoon Zone (FAZ) beginning Friday 2nd September 2016. With an emphasis on developing interpersonal skills and relationships to support primary to secondary school transition, the project offers a range of activities to those in P7, S1 and S2. Our Friday evening sessions continue in the new term beginning on Friday 2nd September at 6:30-8pm. Aimed at those aged 13-15 years, who are at risk of engaging in anti-social behaviour, the project provides a safe space in which young people can engage in sports, games and issue based discussions and workshops. Sessions are free and young people can attend on a drop-in basis with no referral required. Starting in September 2016, we will be facilitating girls-only sports sessions for those in classes P4-6. The project to engage girls in sporting and physical activity to promote healthy lifestyles. By holding girls only sessions we hope to address the gender gap in female participation in sports and create an environment in which girls and young women feel confident to get active and engage in sporting activity. In response to young people, from our FAZ and FEZ sessions, requesting a weekday sports provision, we now offer a Monday night sports session for young people in S1 and S2. Sessions are free to attend and offer an opportunity to engage in energetic activity and informal sports. These sessions are held at Pilrig Park School and run from 6:15-7:45pm.
Our Pilmeny One Two Three Sessions (POTTS) kicks off Monday 7th November 2016. Sessions offer energetic and sporting activity to local children in Primary 1, 2 and 3 every Monday throughout the school term from 3:30-5pm at Pilmeny Youth Centre. PYC is partnering with local club Redpath Albion to offer fun football for local children every Tuesday. The project aims to re-engage children in the to local community who wish to enjoy football participation at grassroots level.
The academy has got off to a flying start with 14 children attending our 6pm to 7pm session and 10 enjoying the 7pm - 8pm session. We can still offer spaces for boys and girls at both sessions. Check our flyer for details.
The Pilmeny Playgroup runs with the purpose of providing a bright environment for children under 3 to interact with other children of a similar age and enhance their development, as well as allowing parents to get out and mingle with others with children of a similar age. The hall is planned and set up to offer a variety of opportunities to practise, build and extend the childrens' development.
