Pilmeny Out of School Club
The Pilmeny Out of School Clubs are funded as a direct result of funding from the The Robertson Trust and Leith Benevolent Association. The award will allow the youth centre to facilitate a diverse programme to run in tandem with its already successful youth work provision. Through this programme we would be able to offer an invaluable opportunity to promote and enhance the choices of children and to address the very real issues affecting them in relation to participation in activities and light or mild fitness programmes tailored to their needs. Targetting local children aged 5, 6 and 7, our programme incorporates activities that children may not necessarily have access to in their home environment including various sports (football, badminton, uni-hock etc), arts and crafts, musical instrument workshops, laptop and internet access, outdoor activities (gardening etc) and a variety of both floor and board games. With a minimum of two trained staff members and a trainee present each session, our clubs are structured around the young people and their needs, adapting to meet their requests on a weekly basis. Our funding allows us to provide these services free of charge, including refreshments at the end of the session. Clubs run Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:30pm-4:30pm although, as our name suggests, runs in conjunction with school term dates. Further details on all aspects of the club can be obtained from the youth centre. Pop in at the office or call 0131 554 0953 during office hours.

Questions and Answers
Q If I join the clubs will I have to attend both days? Not really. We’d like you to come along on both days, but if you can only attend one day, then we’ll keep a place for you. Q Are all core club activities free? The Scottish Community Fund grant is covering the staff, insurance , refreshments, some equipment, some transport and development costs. So the answer is Yes. Q Will I have to make any payments? Maybe. If we arrange an outing there may be a small charge. Q If I stop attending will I lose my place? If you can’t make any sessions it would help if you could let us know. Going on Holiday or if you are ill give us a call. If lots of Children want to join, we may have to apply a waiting list. If you fail to attend for three weeks (6 sessions) without letting us know we may have to take you off the attendance list and offer your place to someone else. Q What will happen after the 40 weeks. Will the club close? It depends. If we can find additional funding, the club will continue members aged 7+ can have their name added to the list to join the Youth centre’s Junior Club which meets on Tuesday evening’s. Also, anyone interested in football can apply to join Redpath Albion Sports Club mini football academy which meets on Friday evening’s at Pilmeny Youth Centre. This club is not reliant on funding.
